W. Kip Viscusi is Vanderbilt University's only university distinguished professor, with primary appointments in the Owen Graduate School of Management and the department of economics as well as the law school. Previously, he served as the John F. Cogan, Jr., Professor of Law and Economics and director of the Program on Empirical Legal studies at Harvard Law School. Mr. Viscusi's research focuses primarily on individual and social responses to risk and uncertainty. He has published widely, mostly on different aspects of health and safety risks. He has consulted to the Office of Management and Budget, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Department of Justice on issues pertaining to the valuation of life and health. Mr. Viscusi also serves on the Science Advisory Board of the EPA. He has received numerous awards for his work over the years. He has been a professor of economics at Duke University and Northwestern University and the Olin Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. He also was deputy director of the Council of Wage and Price Stability in the Carter White House. Mr. Viscusi is the founding editor of the Journal of Risk and Uncertainty and serves on the editorial boards of seven other journals, including the American Economic Review.
