What causes some countries to prosper under capitalism while others fail? World renowned economist Hernando de Soto addresses this critical issue in his new book The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Triumphs in the West and Fails Everywhere Else. De Soto persuasively argues that firmly recognized and legally enforceable property rights are the key to solving the "mystery of capital" and that the widespread establishment of strong property rights could transform the world economy. The book has already been hailed by a number of reviewers as a landmark contribution to the theory of economic development. De Soto is now actively consulting with a number of governments to implement the ideas presented in his book.
