Agenda Intellectual Property Law: A New Perspective November 19, 2002 5:30 p.m.--7:30 p.m. Wohlstetter Conference Center, Twelth Floor, AEI 1150 Seventeenth St., N.W., Washington D.C. 20036
Intellectual property rights have undergone a significant expansion that began with the Copyright Act of 1976. Judge Richard Posner will discuss intellectual property law and present a new theory to explain why it is expanding. He will argue that public choicewherein individuals, interest groups, and politicians pursue their own self interest when making decisionsis helpful in explaining the expansion of intellectual property rights. However, a complete explanation must include other key factors, including political and ideological beliefs and the institutional characteristics of courts and legislatures.
