Donald Kennedy, former Stanford president and a faculty member since 1960, is the Bing Professor of Environmental Science, emeritus at Stanford's Institute for International Studies. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief, Science magazine (the weekly journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science) and is on the board of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Previously, Dr. Kennedy, who earned three degrees in biology from Harvard University, was chairman of Stanford's Department of Biological Sciences and of the Program in Human Biology. After serving as commissioner of the United States Food and Drug Administration, he became Stanford's vice-president and provost and, in 1980, was named Stanford's eighth president.
